The Role of Voting in Democracies

The role of voting is essential  to strong democratic governments.  While some of us take this function for granted, we should remember that the right to vote in this country was afforded to various groups at various times.

Important Historical Moments:
1870 -- 15th Amendment  -- Granted African-American Men the Right to Vote
1920 -- 19th Amendment -- Granted Women the Right to Vote
1964 -- 24th Amendment -- Eliminates Poll Tax
1965 -- Passage of the Voter Rights Act into law
1971 -- 26th Amendment -- Grants US Citizens 18 years and older the Right to Vote

QUESTION:
Are you going to vote in the midterm election on Tuesday Nov. 4th -- why or why not?
